Indian indices ended over a percent lower today dragged by a major sell-off across all sectors during the day. Losses were led mainly by metals, pharma and auto stocks.
Among sectors, the Nifty Metal index lost the most, it fell by 4.5 percent followed by Nifty Pharma, which fell 3 percent. The Nifty IT and Nifty Auto indices fell around 2 percent each while the Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services lost over 1.5 percent.
Sensex ended 470 points at 48,564 while the Nifty went down by 152 points to settle at 14,281. The broader markets were also lower for the day with the midcap and smallcap indices went down 2.4 percent and 2 percent, respectively
On the Nifty50 UPL, RIL, Titan, HDFC Bank and ITC were the top gainers while Tata Motors, Tata Steel, ONGC, Hindalco and JSW Steel led the losses.
